The Lady Rangers won a thriller Friday night with a walk off win over Wichita Rider, 10-9. The game went back and forth with lead changes and ties the entire way starting in the 3rd inning. Shaky Lady Ranger defense in the 3rd followed by a walk and a double plated 3 Rider runs and Chisholm found themselves chasing from behind. A, never quite attitude, showed in the bottom of the inning as they answered right back with 4 of their own runs which was sparked by the bottom of the order. Sierra Hanes led the inning off with a sharp single back through the middle and freshman, Lexi White, followed with a walk. Shelby Warren's sacrifice bunt attempt proved to be more than just a sacrifice as the throw pulled the second baseman off the bag, loading the bases with nobody out for leadoff hitter Alexa Moses. Moses delivered with a bases clearing triple to left field. Two batters later, Victoria Quinn knocked in courtesy runner Valerie Lomenick to give Chisholm the lead. Rider had a, never qutie attitude, of their own as they answered back immediately with 4 runs, most with two outs in the 4th. Four hits, an error and a big extra base hit to left field which plated two runs put Rider right back on top, 7-4. The Lady Rangers answered back immediately with 3 runs in the bottom half. Lexy Salas walked to leadoff and Kendyl Slaboda singled to center. Pitcher, Sierra Hanes, drilled a double down the left field line to score both of those runners. After courtesy runner, Victoria Calixto, advanced to third base on a fielders choice. Shelby Warren hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game. The drama really unfolded in the bottom of the 7th when the Lady Rangers found themselves down, 9-7. It all started with one out and Mariah Gonzales up to bat. She hit a ball that fell in a tough spot for infielders, right between the pitcher, second baseman and first baseman. Good hustle down the line put Gonzales on first with one out. The next batter, Victoria Quinn, took one for the team to bring the tying run to the plate in the form of clean-up hitter, Alex Potts. Potts was able to single to left field to load the bases for first baseman, Lexy Salas, with the tying run Victoria Quinn at second and the winning run, pinch runner Victoria Calixto at first. Salas drove a 1-0 pitch over the right fielders head that easily scored Gonzales and Quinn with Calixto flying around the bases. The ball was retrieved quickly by the right fielder but still the relay throw to get Calixto was not in time and the celebration was on at Chisholm Trail with a final score of, 10-9.
Overall, the Lady Rangers collected 9 hits with two from Quinn and two from Hanes. Valerie Lomenick, Kendyl Slaboda, Alexa Moses, Alex Potts and Lexy Salas provided the others. The win moves Chisholm to 8-2 in district and still tied with Brewer for 2nd place.
