Phil Schwartz is the head girl's and boy's golf coach. Prior to coming here, he taught and coached in the Arlington ISD at Arlington HS. Phil began coaching there in 1999. He also coached the golf teams at Nolan Catholic HS from 1987-1989 and again from 1993-1994.
Coach Schwartz played golf in high school at Nolan Catholic and was on the Varsity team all 4 years. He was the individual State Champion in TCIL both his Junior and Senior years. His team won the State Championship both years as well.
Phil's golf continued as he attended Texas Wesleyan University. His final event in college was playing in the NAIA National Tournament his senior year, 1985, where he finished 16th in the nation.
Phil then took a job as an Assistant Pro at Ridglea CC in Ft. Worth and worked there learning the golf business. But the golf bug still itched, so he decided to play professionally. He was in the right place at the right time, as there was a new tour developing. It was the Tournament Players Association (it is now the Web.com Tour). He played 2 years full time on that tour. He also played on The Dakotas Tour, The Fairway Tour, and other events since then. He still plays to a 0 handicap.
As a coach, he has coached a TAPPS State Champion and teams championship while at Nolan Catholic. At Arlington, he took teams or individuals to the Regional tournament 12 of the 14 years he was there and coached 1 player who went to the State Tournament in Austin.
Since being here at Chisholm Trail, he has taken players to the Regional Golf Tournament every year.
Phil has “looped up” every year at Chisholm Trail so he has taught World History, US History and now American Government. Phil is also a Senior Class Sponsor and on the Campus Planning and Advisory Committee.
Phil was married in 1999 to Dana, who is the English Department Chair at CTHS. He lives in Ft. Worth in a home built in 2001.
Coach Greg Barton taught for 19 years in the Arlington ISD and was the Head Golf Coach at Arlington Seguin HS for 10 years. While at Seguin, he had the privilege of coaching 2 district champion teams and 3 district champion medalists.
Greg is from Abilene and played golf at Abilene Cooper HS. It was an honor for him to be able to play for Coach Tommy Estes at Cooper. Most of what he knows about being an effective coach is from his experiences playing on some great Cooper golf teams.
After high school, he played golf at McMurry University. During the 1987-88 season, he received the team MVP award after finishing in the top 15 at the conference tournament and being selected as 2nd team All-Conference in the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
He and his wife live here in Ft. Worth and have a daughter who has already caught the golf bug. She attends school here in EMS ISD and hopes to one day be a Chisholm Trail golfer.
