Coach Rodney “Coach Mac” McFadden is entering his 24th year as a head basketball coach. Rodney is a graduate of Conroe High School where he was a 2 year starter for the varsity basketball team and All-District selection. He was a 4 year letter winner as a point guard for the men’s basketball program at Tarleton State University (1987-1991). He then served as a defensive specialist and helped the Texans to 3 consecutive conference championships while serving as co-captain for 2 years. Coach McFadden is married to the love of his life, Misty, and the proud father of a beautiful daughter named Raven, two sons Terreck and Brayden. Next to God, his family means everything to him.
Rodney began his coaching career at Denton Ryan High School as the Jr. Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. His first team went 21-5 and won the District championship. After 2 years at Ryan, he was fortunate to spend 9 great years as the Head Coach for the O.D. Wyatt girls basketball program where he compiled a 189-91 record. During his tenure, the girl’s reached the playoffs the last 7 years. They won 63 consecutive district games, 4 undefeated district championships, and 4 consecutive Regional tournament appearances. After his time with the girl's program, he was presented with the challenge of resurrecting the O.D. Wyatt boy's program that had failed to reach the playoffs in 15 years. He coached the boys for 9 years, guiding the program to 4 playoff appearances and 1 Regional Tournament appearance.
During his 19 year head coaching career, he has been selected Coach of the Year 5 times by his peers, his teams have made the playoffs 11 out of 18 years, while accumulating over 300 victories. He has had over 50 All-District selections, 5 District MVPs, 9 All-region selections, 3 All-State selections, and over 25 former players who have graduated from college, which is his proudest achievement.
He looks forward to establishing a program that is respected across the state, building lasting relationships with present and future Lady Rangers and receiving college graduation invitations from the young ladies who will help put Chisholm Trail Lady Ranger Basketball on the map. He feels blessed to have this opportunity and will do everything in his power to make it a very successful one. Rangers Ride!!!
This is my first year at Chisholm Trail High School and my 10th year of coaching/teaching. I started my teaching career in Northwest ISD in 2008 after attending Tarleton State University. I spend most of my time outside of the classroom with Athletics, but I also love running distance and playing with my kids.
I am married to Lindsey Thomas and have 2 children named Knox (2) and Landry (1). I truly enjoy coaching and teaching young men and women and plan to do this until I retire.
My favorite quote is "Always earned, never given, for this team, I am driven" -unknown.
